(June 2024)
SFPE UQ talk 2023 by ACY Yuen (Oct)
Invited seminar by the SFPE UQ Student Chapter hosted on 3/10/2023 (Tues). This talk discusses the development of atomistic understanding using molecular dynamics (MD) techniques to deliver fundamental insights into key phenomena (i.e. charring, dehydration, radical scavenging, etc). (Oct 2023)
New Fire-retardant Paint by UNSW
Led by Prof Guan H YEOH (UNSW) in the CRC-P Round 5 projects at UNSW, team members Dr Anthony CY Yuen and Dr Cheng Wang (UNSW) have joined their efforts in developing a new fire-retardant paint for bushfire preventional measures. With uprising amount of bushfires in the globe, this paint will protect our rural properties.

AOFSM 2019 Presentation ACY Yuen
A practical and robust numerical fire field model was developed to simulate the surface regression and charring formation of composite polymer materials (i.e. Chitosan/Graphene Oxide Flexible Polyurethane). This model includes the interaction of heat, fluid and solid degradation due to the propagation of fire.
EASEC16 2019 Presentation by ACY Yuen
Demonstration of the Molecular Dynamics simulation approach in characterizing toxicity and char formation. This talk summarises our first series of work on atomistic polymer degradation studies.

Fire CFD: Turbulent Combustion
To model non-premixed diffusion flames (i.e. free-standing camp fire; fruniture fire, bushfire, etc), it is typical to couple the combustion models with turbulent effects, this video demonstrates the concept of turbulent combustion
Fire CFD: Pyrolysis and Soot Modelling
Most fire involves the burning of solid fuels, it is essential to utilise pyrolysis modelling techniques to describe the solid decomposition process. Meanwhile, aptly predicting the elevating gas volatiles will enable better prediction of soot partculates.
CFD: Boundary Conditions, Validation
Let's talk about Boundary Conditions in CFD from the basic priciples. We all know most engineering CFD problems involves inlet, opening/outlet and walls, but what do they do physically and numerically. Also, let discuss how to perform validation/verification.
CFD Tut: 3D Air-duct Case Study
Now, let's start with working on a simple clasic CFD example in ANSYS CFX/FLUENT. This case study will demonstrate the overall process from geometry, meshing, case setup, iteration and results plotting. We can also compare the results and software options.
CFD Tut: 2D Parallel Plate Problem
One of the classical boundary flow problems in fluid mechanics is the 2D parallel plate problem. In this study, we can characterise the flow transition from laminar to turbulent. Additionally, we can non-dimensionalise the problem via data aquired in CFD.
CFD Tut: Flow Over Cylinder
When it comes to classic CFD topics, characterising turbulent structures is one of the most famous problem to solve. In this case study, we are going to visualise turbulent vortex formation via studying the flow over a cylinder, looking at the tail "vortex street".
Fluid Mechanics - Laminar vs Turbulent
We always talk about turbulence when it comes to fluid flows. However, what is the effect of turbulence towards the fluid properties? Through some classic fluid mechanics problems, we may find out via studying their flow structures.
