Flame Retardant Coating on HDPE

Under normal circumstances, applying coating on a close-cell structure (i.e. high-density polyethylene) is often extremely difficult as the layer can only be applied on the surface. Herein, we demonstrate a facile plasma treatment procedure to activate the polymer foam structure so that the fire coating can be applied to a certain depth on the foam.
